Plank in Your Eye

"And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother's eye."
Luke 6:41-42 NKJV

In verse 41, Jesus states, "Why to you look and find fault with your brother's spiritual walk, how he believes or lives." When you can't see the big fault in your own Christian walk, life style or belief. He says first remove that fault, habit or belief of your own. It may be a sin you need to get rid of by the power of the Holy Spirit, or maybe a gross false teaching you may have retained from the traditions of men. Such a teaching may be like a plank in your eye because it has prevented you from perceiving so much truth from the Scriptures.

How do you get a speck of dust out of your own eye,. You don't use a crowbar or your fist; you use your little finger. So it is with your brother. You delicately show him the truth concerning his error. Notice Jesus did not say to abandon your brother or turn him over to someone else. No, He said, once you get the plank out of your own eye, you can SEE CLEARLY, with godly wisdom and discernment, to get the speck our of your brother's eye. You are able to remove the speck without hurting your brother. That is, you are then able to see, by the spirit, the error in your brother's belief. These verses don't necessarily suggest sin in you or your brother but most likely refers to the inability to see spiritually concerning some area of your own or your brother's life or of belief. These verses also imply a renewed fellowship and reconciliation with your brother.
